Wigwam Camp, November 2004

A chilly weekend in November saw a hardy half-a-dozen "brave" (sorry) souls takle the challenge to construct and then spend the night in wigwam-style bivouac accommodation at the Daviot Scout camping area.

After a cooked breakfast on Saturday morning (we spent the Friday night after our normal meeting in the Scout hall), two different types of wigwam were constructed with both being finally put up as darkness was falling on Saturday night. Dinner (mince & tatties - Terry's favourite!) was cooked by the lads for all of us, and very welcome it was too after the day outside. After an evening of games in the Scout hut, the lads retired to their wigwams for the night at around 11pm. Soon realising that the more bodies in a tent, the warmer it is, they soon amalgamated themselves in the one wigwam where (most of them say) they had a good night's sleep!

After wake-up calls at 7.00, 7.15 and 7.45am (!) - not to mention another cooked breakfast ready and waiting for them - camp was broken extremely efficiently the next morning and we left the site at 9.01am - a minute later than planned, in order to proceed to Oldmeldrum Legion Hall to muster for the Rememberance Day service later that morning.

As always, we would have hoped that more Scouts could have attended the camp (where were the other ones who indicated on their start-of-term-letter that they would come!?) but well done to those who did.
