Six Foot Off The Ground Camp 2005
This autumn the Explorers joined the Scouts for the annual attempt to beat the previous record to camp over six feet off the ground. This year, because we had lost several of our longer pioneering poles we enlisted the help of the local foliage and used trees as our structural uprights.
The Explorers, in between helping the Scouts with their platform, went off and did their own thing, building a variety of intricate but more modest in height platforms.
After a little over 8 hours work, a tented platform 14 feet 5 inches was constructed which easily beat the previous record of just over 13 feet. 10 of the Scouts elected to camp up in the trees and spent a slightly cramped (though cosy!) night in the patrol tent.
During the camp Benn achieved his "50 Nights Away" badge - well done! Three of the Scouts also received their "1 Night Away" for their first camp.
