This year's summer camp was held at Templar's Park, Mayculter. Only 4 nights long this time (Summer Camp "Lite") we tried to pack as much as possible into the three full days of activities that we had.
Thursday was a fairly relaxed day, spent packing up the gear at Daviot, transporting it to Templars, then unpacking it and setting up camp. We had the entire Templars site to ourselves and so chose the "Green Lady" subsite at the most southerly end of the park which had its own toilets and dining huts.
Day one involved activities at Templar's Park - mainly abseiling and archery. We took the opportunity to have quite long sessions in these activities and therefore improve our skills.
Day two began early with a trip down to the Longcraig Scout Centre on the shores of the Firth of Forth at South Queensferry, a superb sailing centre which offers sailing, kayaking and windsurfing activities. We chose sailing as we have not tried that in Scouts for many many years. We sailed two-, three- or four- handedly in large Wayfarer dingys and single-handedly inToppers. Conditions were perfect for beginners and the setting - almost directly beneath the Forth bridges - wonderful. We are definitely going to try and go back here for some more extended sailing (leading to RYA qualifications) when we can.
Day three saw us hiking up Clachnaben at Strachan near Banchory and then a trip to Stonehaven open-air pool in the afternoon.
